1956, Floyd's has a terrific mail-order catalog with a comprehensive selection
of Cajun, Zydeco & Swamp-Pop CDs and cassettes, plus instructional dance
and documentary videos, C-z themed jewelry, T-shirts, books, instruments
(Cajun accordian or rubboard anyone?). I visited Floyd's on the way to the
Zydeco festival (just 5 minutes down the road from Plaisance) and the staff
was incredibly knowledgable and friendly. |
 | La Louisiane Records,
located in Lafayette, LA & specializing in Cajun music. Detailed catalog
& on-line ordering. |
 | The Louisiana Music
Factory now has a web site. This is my first stop when I visit New
Orleans. During Jazz Fest, and at other times throughout the year, the
music store features free concerts. One afternoon during Jazz Fest
week, I was dancing in between the CD racks to Steve Riley, Boozoo, and Roy
Carrier. The following day, I was grooving to Kermit Ruffins and the BBQ
Swingers! |
 | Ralph Records, a small
independent record label out of New Orleans has several Cajun releases
listed, with sound bites, on their web page.. |
 | Rounder Records:
1-800-443-4727. Once you find the CD you are interested in, you can pull up
a biography of the musician, photo of the artwork, plus a list of all
included songs. |
 | Shanachie
Records , a world music label, has recently expanded to produce
CDs by Keith Frank and Wayne Toups.
