Lafayette Visitors Center Website For a die-hard Cajun & Zydeco fan, Lafayette, Louisiana is Mecca. This Web page includes tourist information, event calendars, including a Festival information page, with dates & contact phone numbers, news releases and lots of other helpful and interesting information about the Mecca of Acadiana.

The Independent Weekly. Award-winning weekly independent newspaper & the only place to get the real scoop on Acadiana now. The Independent Weekly was launched in August of 2003 to provide a weekly forum for thinking, educated, involved readers who care deeply about Acadiana's future and help shape the community's vision for it.

KRVS Radio Acadie. The glue that holds us all together: KRVS is an indispensable source of information, ideas and cultural experience about south Louisiana. A listener-supported, public radio station, located in Lafayette, Louisiana, KRVS broadcasts live annually from the Cajun Music Festival, the Zydeco Festival, and the Festival International de Louisiane, as well as producing and airing live broadcasts of the Louisiana Crossroads series. They play Cajun music, Zydeco, Blues, Jazz, Swamp Pop, Swamp Rock, Louisiana singer/ songwriter music, and many other types of music created and played in Louisiana. Countless numbers of musicians have come into KRVS to play live and talk about their work--musicians such as Sonny Landreth, Michael Doucet, Zachary Richard, Steve Riley, David Greely, Christine Balfa & Dirk Powell, the Magnolia Sisters, Keith Frank, the late Beau Jocque, Mark Broussard, Henry Butler, the Red Stick Ramblers, Terrance Simien, Marcia Ball, Buckwheat Zydeco, and many others!

Major Acadiana Events and Festivals:

Original Southwest Louisiana Zydeco Music Festival in Plaisance, LA. I went to the 1996 festival and it was incredible. Check out their official web site. The Festival now has an official research archives established at the Opelousas Museum & Interpretive Center which contains over 14 years of Creole/Zydeco music performances, recorded live on video tape and in still photographs. Located at 329 North Main Street in Opelousas, hours of operation are 9 am - 5pm Monday - Friday.

Festivals Acadiens et Creoles..my FAVORITE of them all...in Lafayette, LA usually the 2nd weekend in October. Great music and cultural events during the day, great music in the clubs at night.

Festival International de Louisianne great Spring festival in Lafayette, LA.

The South Louisiana Black Pot Festival & Cookoff is one of the most unique festivals in Acadiana. Held annually at Lafayette’s Acadian Village, the festival is held in October with two days of great music, dancing, food, camping & jamming. Hosted by The Red Stick Ramblers.

Cajun/Zydeco Music & Dance - One of the first Cajun and zydeco sites on the web, this page, maintained by Jeremy Rice, includes links to extensive C/Z
information in Lousiana and nationally. There is also a great article here, found by going to the "Louisiana info" link, on planning a C/z trip to Southwest Louisiana. I agree with almost all of Jeremy's suggestions.
